The fifth and final T20I between England and India is being played at Southampton, with India opting to bowl after winning the toss. England recovered from an early setback for Phil Salt as captain Harry Brook and Jos Buttler counter-attacked to take the score to 61/1 at the end of the powerplay.

Brook and Buttler then kept up the pressure, taking on the Indian attack and accelerating the run rate. Both batters reached their half-centuries, with Buttler going on to a century off 51 balls.

Buttler eventually fell for 131, while Brook remained unbeaten on 95 as England finished on 257/3 in 20 overs. The innings was aided by missed catching chances from India, which allowed England to add crucial runs.

In reply, India’s chase of 258 began poorly as Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 3. Sanju Samson provided a brief burst with 27 off 14 balls but departed soon after, and captain Shreyas Iyer also fell for 28.

Despite wickets tumbling at the other end, Ishan Kishan tried to keep India in the hunt with an aggressive 56 off 35 balls before getting out, leaving the chase under pressure.
