At a “drug-free Tamil Nadu” awareness conference held at Achipatti near Pollachi, Annamalai, head of the “We The Leaders” organisation, said Tamil Nadu would witness a change of government in 2031.
He said the event was the result of sustained grassroots outreach, with volunteers going door-to-door for a month. The organisation, launched on June 5, was described by him as a political movement and a people’s revolution aimed at building leadership from the ground up and encouraging citizens to participate in solving social issues.
Annamalai claimed that within 39 days of its launch, the group had attracted 19 lakh members, adding that no formal invitations were issued to join. He said the organisation was not a “family party” and urged people to join on their own, stating that reaching 50 lakh members would reflect broad public support.
He announced that the next conference would be held in Thoothukudi and said the coming month would be observed as an “environment month”, with plans such as planting 50 lakh saplings, cleaning over 2,000 lakes and undertaking river-water cleaning. He also outlined a six-month focus on key issues, including women’s safety in September and child welfare thereafter.
Stressing what he called “healthy politics”, Annamalai said the conference was not meant to abuse political opponents. He said the current government had been elected by voters and should be respected, while adding that new MLAs and ministers may face challenges and should be supported. He reiterated that the organisation would stand beyond caste and religion and called for social justice, sustainable development, agricultural resurgence, cultural continuity and governance reforms.
