The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) government led by Chief Minister Vijay assumed office on May 10, followed by the swearing-in of 34 ministers.
In the wake of the change in administration, the Chief Minister directed that officers serving in the same place for more than three years be shifted. Subsequently, several IAS officers holding posts such as secretaries, directors and chief executive roles across departments were transferred to other assignments.
However, the report says a number of officials appointed during the previous DMK government continue in the same positions. With the Assembly expected to see the presentation of the general budget and the agriculture budget later this month, preparatory work is said to be progressing intensively in the Finance Department.
At the same time, some long-serving officials are reportedly attending review meetings with limited interest, citing uncertainty over possible transfers at any time. Officials who sought clarity on whether they would continue in the same department have not received a clear response, the report adds.
The report further claims that some officers are completing tasks only formally and are not providing proper answers to queries raised by the Finance Department. If the situation continues, it could create hurdles in implementing the TVK government’s long-term plans, it warns.
