Police have received complaints from 59 private school managements alleging they paid bribes to secure recognition, permissions and renewals, but were later cheated, according to the latest details.
The complaints name Arasakumar, described as a DMK functionary who ran a private schools association in name. Investigators say he allegedly used his influence in the ruling party and government to promise facilitation of approvals for schools.
Complainants allege that significant sums were collected as bribes, but the promised work was not completed in several cases. After Arasakumar’s arrest, more school representatives have begun approaching the police to register their grievances.
So far, the total amount cited in the 59 complaints is Rs 7.34 crore. Based on these complaints, police have frozen 24 bank accounts and are probing whether assets were purchased using the allegedly collected money.
Separately, there are allegations that the total amount collected from hundreds of school managements across Tamil Nadu could exceed Rs 100 crore, police sources said.
