Hyderabad: Indian Air Force Group Captain and astronaut Subhanshu Shukla said his next big dream is to see more Indians get an opportunity to explore space.
Speaking at the launch of his book The Second Orbit, Shukla—described as the first Indian to have travelled to the International Space Station—said viewing Earth from space brings an immediate realisation that the planet is “our home,” with no visible borders or regions.
He also urged today’s children to make use of the many opportunities available, choose the careers they are passionate about, and keep developing their skills without giving up.
Explaining the title, Shukla said The Second Orbit felt like the right way to represent his mission and to share his space journey with readers. He added that he sees the book as a story that belongs to everyone—from the classroom to space—meant to tell children that such experiences can happen to them too.
Shukla said writing the book was challenging, and that working on it felt like reliving his space journey once again.
