AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Tuesday alleged that Chief Minister Vijay is not running the government with a clear majority and is instead depending on support from MLAs elected from other parties.
Speaking to reporters in Salem, EPS said Vijay won 108 seats and is “borrowing” legislators to keep the administration afloat. He also objected to Vijay’s recent remarks in Karur, where the Chief Minister reportedly referred to the DMK and AIADMK as “coalition thieves,” calling the language inappropriate for someone holding the top post.
EPS further claimed that some MLAs who had won on the AIADMK’s ‘two leaves’ symbol were made to resign through “horse-trading” and were then brought into Vijay’s party. He questioned the government’s promise of “clean” and “transparent” governance, asking who was being inducted into the ruling side and on what basis.
He also criticised what he described as contradictory statements by leaders of alliance parties and argued that relying on such shifting positions weakens governance. EPS said Vijay should speak more constructively and not like a “platform speaker,” adding that MLAs resigning and switching sides is happening for the first time in Tamil Nadu.
The interaction with the media in Omalur, Salem district, was streamed live on Dinamalar’s website and social media pages.
