Chennai police say former DMK minister Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar have not appeared before the investigating officer, despite a High Court order issued while granting them anticipatory bail.

The case relates to an alleged attempt to bargain with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA Ilaiyaraja of Uthangarai constituency, Krishnagiri district, by offering Rs 35 crore. In connection with the complaint, nine people, including a Chennai-based man named Thirunavukkarasu, have been arrested.

During the investigation, police said they found indications that Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar were behind the arrested persons. The Triplicane police in Chennai issued summons and also served a lookout notice, but the two did not appear.

After they secured anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court, the court directed them to report and sign before the investigating officer twice a day—morning and evening. However, police said five days have passed since the order and they still have not complied.

Police stated they are preparing to approach the court seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar.
