Tamil Nadu will begin the Census self-enumeration process on July 17, 2026, with residents able to submit details through a digital platform for the first time. The online self-enumeration window will run until July 31.

The Census exercise in the state is planned in two phases. The first phase—House Listing and Housing Census—is scheduled from August 1 to August 30, while the second phase, the Population Enumeration, is slated for February 2027.

For the first phase, households can register and fill in details using a mobile phone at https://se.census.gov.in/. Only one mobile number can be used per family. After answering 34 questions, an identification number will be sent via SMS to the registered phone number, which must be shared when the assigned enumerator visits the home.

As per the instructions, the head of the household—or any family member on their behalf—can complete the form, but the registered mobile number cannot be reused by another household. Users must select the state/UT, enter captcha, provide the household head’s name and mobile number, choose a preferred language, verify via OTP, select district and key location details, and mark the home location on the map before completing the questionnaire. The portal also provides FAQs and prompts users if any information is missed, allowing review and corrections before final submission.
