‘Jananayagan’, starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay in the lead, is set to release on July 23, the makers have announced. Advance bookings will open on July 19.
Directed by H Vinoth, the film features Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju and others. It was earlier slated for a January 9 release, but the release was pushed back due to delays in obtaining the censor certificate, prompting the production team to approach the court.
The makers had attempted to secure certification and release the film ahead of the elections, but the censor board did not issue a certificate then. After the elections and Vijay taking charge as Chief Minister, the film finally received an ‘A’ certificate on July 9.
The censor board also stated the film’s runtime as 183 minutes (3 hours and 3 minutes). In a social media post, the production house described the project as “tested by fire” and “shaped by time,” while announcing the release date.
Fans have also been celebrating the release, coming six months after the announcement, and reports that the title card will refer to him as “Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Vijay” instead of “Thalapathy Vijay.”
