India’s Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) has advised ship owners, managers and crew recruitment agencies to avoid deploying Indian sailors on vessels that travel through the Strait of Hormuz, until further instructions are issued.
The advisory comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia. According to the report, Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz and has been attacking vessels moving through the route. One Indian national has been killed and some others have been injured and are undergoing treatment.
The Central government has condemned Iran over the incident, the report said.
In its communication, the DGMA also asked stakeholders to maintain enhanced security for ships operating in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and adjoining sea areas.
It further urged companies to closely monitor official travel warnings and security advisories, and to implement all safety measures in line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
