The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has warned that heat wave conditions may occur in parts of 15 districts in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday (July 16).
In a bulletin, the weather office said heat wave conditions were reported at a few places over the past 24 hours in Tiruvallur, Madurai, Karur, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Vellore districts. Dry weather prevailed over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Due to variations in the speed of westerly winds, light rain is likely at one or two places over the Western Ghats districts on July 16. On Thursday, the Western Ghats districts and north coastal districts may receive moderate rain at one or two places with thunder, lightning and gusty winds.
The Met office said there is little chance of a significant change in maximum temperatures over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, though a slight rise is possible. With high temperatures and humidity, heat-related discomfort may be felt at a few places in coastal districts, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Heat wave conditions are likely at isolated places in Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Erode, Dindigul, Madurai and Virudhunagar, as well as the plains of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli and adjoining areas of Tenkasi, the bulletin added.
