The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed the Madras High Court that a complaint seeking an investigation into alleged irregularities in donations collected through the ‘NaMo’ app has been closed.
The petition was filed by B.R. Aravindakshan of Royapuram, Chennai. He claimed that a donation campaign was launched on December 25, 2021, and that contributions were sought in the name of Union government welfare schemes, while being linked to BJP fundraising.
According to the petitioner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then BJP president J.P. Nadda appealed to the public to contribute under a “small donation” initiative, and he too donated believing it would support government welfare programmes. He alleged that donors were not transparently informed whether the money reached any government account meant for such schemes.
The matter came up before Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan. The CBI submitted that after examining the complaint, it found the issue did not fall within its investigative jurisdiction and that the complaint had been closed in February. Recording this, the court closed the petition.
