A powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand on Wednesday, triggering a tsunami warning, according to local reports.
The quake was reported near Te Anau, a well-known tourist destination in the country’s northern region. Following the tremor, authorities issued a tsunami alert for coastal areas of the South Island.
Officials also cautioned that landslides could occur in affected regions. Residents in coastal zones were urged to evacuate immediately and move to higher ground or designated tsunami evacuation areas.
