Minister Nirmal Kumar on Wednesday asserted that there is “no place for commission culture” under the Thaweka government, saying the administration will not allow percentage-based kickbacks in public dealings.
Speaking to reporters at the Chennai Secretariat, he said those responsible for lock-up deaths would face stringent action. He alleged that such cases were covered up during the previous regime and said legal steps would be taken in connection with the Nagercoil incident.
The minister also claimed that efforts were under way to destabilise the government by attempting to “buy” MLAs, alleging that offers went up to Rs 50 crore. He further alleged that DMK, AIADMK and BJP were trying to come together to form a government.
On governance measures, he said irregularities had been found in the Thiruvanmiyur–Uthandi flyover contract and that the contract would be cancelled. He added that the government would continue to rectify contracts awarded through malpractice.
Nirmal Kumar said the registration process that had been running until 9 pm for the past five years has now been fully streamlined. He warned that anyone involved in corruption in the registration department would be arrested without bias.
