Chennai-based civic group ‘We The Leaders’, led by Annamalai, has appealed to the public to share details of TASMAC liquor shops located near educational institutions, temples and bus stands.
In a statement, the organisation referred to the Tamil Nadu government’s announcement that TASMAC outlets functioning within a 500-metre radius of such public places had been shut down.
However, the group said its field checks in Chennai found that several TASMAC shops were still operating within the 500-metre limit.
Stating that similar violations could exist in other districts, the organisation urged residents to record selfie videos showing the liquor shop and the nearby school, temple or bus stand, and to clearly mention the distance between the two.
It asked citizens to upload the reels and related details through a Google application form, as part of its effort to compile information on outlets that should be closed.
