Tehran said its forces launched missile and drone strikes on US bases in Jordan, claiming that several American warplanes were destroyed and others damaged.
The statement came amid escalating tensions after a peace agreement reportedly ended, with the US carrying out attacks on Iran and Tehran responding by targeting American facilities across the Middle East.
Jordan had earlier said it intercepted and destroyed three missiles that were headed toward its territory.
In its statement, Iran also claimed eight people were killed in the Jordan strikes and urged Jordanians to drive out what it called “occupiers” and anti-Islam Americans.
Iran further said it attacked US military bases in Syria. Reports also suggested strikes in northern Iraq, though Iran did not confirm those claims.
