A 10-day special worship programme has begun at the Ram temple in Ayodhya following complaints of irregularities in the handling of donations received at the shrine.
The Bal Ram temple is managed by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party, had raised the issue last month, after which a state-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) started an inquiry.
Several Hindu organisations said the controversy had brought disrepute to the temple. In response, the trust has initiated what it described as an atonement and purification ritual to restore the temple’s sanctity and dignity.
As part of the programme, students from the temple’s gurukul will recite the Vishnu Sahasranama daily. Trust treasurer Govind Dev Giri said the chant will be recited 251 times each day, and readings from the Valmiki Ramayana will also be held.
Meanwhile, reports said the SIT is expected to submit an interim report to the Supreme Court in the coming days, and may seek additional time to complete the investigation.
