Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay on Friday called on people to take a pledge to make Tamil Nadu the premier state in India, in a message issued on the occasion of “Tamil Nadu Day”.
Recalling the day the Assembly adopted the resolution to name the state “Tamil Nadu”, he extended greetings to the people and said the occasion honours Tamil antiquity, history, culture and linguistic pride.
The Chief Minister said the government will celebrate both November 1—when the state was formed as Madras State—and July 18, the day a historic resolution was moved and passed in the Assembly to rename it as Tamil Nadu.
He said Tamil Nadu, as the homeland of a classical Tamil tradition, should continue to stand out for equality and social justice, and excel in education, technology and skilled human resources.
Vijay also urged people to ensure the sweetness of Tamil, the community’s cultural values and humanitarian legacy flourish across generations, and to remember and pay tribute to those who worked for the formation of the state.
