A junior engineer and a lineman of the electricity distribution office at Manakudi, near Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, were arrested on Friday on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 500.
The accused were identified as junior engineer Syed Mohamed Basha (48) and lineman Panju (36), who is said to be a temporary worker. Officials said the duo allegedly demanded money from a consumer for changing the type of electricity connection for a new house.
Following a complaint, a team led by Ramanathapuram Vigilance and Anti-Corruption DSP Ramachandran kept the suspects under surveillance.
The officials caught the two after they allegedly received Rs 500 from the consumer. Further inquiry is under way.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and steps are being taken to produce the accused before a court, officials said.
