New Delhi: Gujarat has secured the top spot in NITI Aayog’s latest ranking of business-friendly states, while Tamil Nadu has been placed third.
The ranking is designed to assess states’ ability to attract investments over the long term. It is based on indicators including infrastructure capacity, skilled human resources, institutional capability, financial health, environmental resilience and regulatory framework.
Gujarat led the list with 56.6 points, with the report citing strengths such as infrastructure, business environment and financial health. Factors highlighted include port infrastructure, power distribution and a strong industrial ecosystem.
Maharashtra ranked second with 53.7 points, supported by its financial markets, strong private participation and innovation-related infrastructure. Tamil Nadu followed closely in third place with 53.3 points, with the assessment pointing to its manufacturing base, export performance, port facilities and ability to translate investments into execution.
Among other states mentioned, Odisha stood fifth and Madhya Pradesh seventh, while Uttar Pradesh was placed 19th. Jharkhand and Bihar were ranked 25th and 26th respectively. In the hill and North-Eastern category, Uttarakhand topped the list, followed by Assam and Himachal Pradesh. Among Union Territories, Goa led, with Delhi and Chandigarh next.
