Chennai: The All Omni Bus Owners’ Association has said it is prepared to operate 500 omni buses at fares on par with Tamil Nadu’s government buses, provided the state extends support.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, the association’s founder Pandian and president Ilangovan said passenger demand in the state has been rising, leading to an increase in the number of omni buses.
They noted that allegations of fare hikes by omni buses have persisted for years. To address this, the association said it has submitted a petition to the Chief Minister’s special cell.
The association said it would run the 500 buses throughout the year at government bus fares if its request is accepted. It also urged the state to issue a new, dedicated permit category for omni buses and asked the government to take steps to resolve the issue.
