Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has told party functionaries that he will “certainly restructure and unify” the party and lead it to victory.
Following the party’s defeat in the Assembly election, Palaniswami has been holding district-wise consultations with AIADMK office-bearers. So far, he has met functionaries from 28 districts.
According to party organisational secretaries, during a meeting with Pudukkottai and Cuddalore district functionaries on July 16, Palaniswami urged them to work together to rebuild the party. He reportedly said new appointments would be made to replace those who had left, and expressed confidence of winning the by-elections.
The organisational secretaries also claimed that similar messages are being conveyed to functionaries in other districts. They alleged that the current round of meetings is aimed more at consolidating leadership and identifying those who stayed away, including for possible changes to the executive committee, rather than strengthening the party.
They further said many functionaries are not ready to accept the assurances being given in these meetings.
