Heavy rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir has triggered flash floods and landslides, leaving at least four people dead, officials said. The situation has prompted intensified rescue and safety measures across affected areas.
In Poonch district, a house collapse in Noonabandi village killed a 28-year-old woman, identified as Nasiya. Her husband, Mohammad Hafeez, and their three children were injured and were rescued before being admitted to hospital for treatment.
In Marhote, a girl’s body was recovered from a stream, while two more deaths were reported in flood-related incidents. Authorities said several people are still missing, and Rajouri also witnessed severe flooding.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain to continue until July 23, with widespread rainfall expected across the Union Territory in the coming days. As a precaution, hundreds of residents have been moved to safer locations, and the Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended due to the continuing weather threat.
