New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has formally recognized the move of six Shiv Sena MPs, elected from the Uddhav Thackeray camp, to join the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

Shiv Sena split in 2022, with a group of MLAs and MPs led by Eknath Shinde breaking away and extending support to the BJP. Since then, Shinde has held the party’s main organization, while Uddhav Thackeray has continued to function as a separate faction.

According to the report, Uddhav’s side earlier had 20 MLAs and nine Lok Sabha MPs. Six MPs, including Sanjay Uthmarao Deshmukh and Nagesh Baburao Patil, rallied against the Uddhav camp and submitted a letter to the Speaker expressing their intent to leave and join Shinde.

Following the Speaker’s approval, an official communication was issued through the Lok Sabha Secretariat. With this, Shiv Sena’s strength in the Lok Sabha has risen from seven to 13, while the Uddhav faction’s MP count has dropped to three—seen as a major setback for Uddhav’s camp.

Separately, the report notes that a similar development has been recorded in Mamata Banerjee’s party, where 20 Lok Sabha MPs expressed a desire to break away and function as a separate group, which the Speaker has recognized.
