Cyber Crime Police have warned the public about fake links circulating in the name of the Jan Dhan scheme on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook.

According to the police, fraudsters are spreading misleading financial assistance advertisements by using photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vijay. They said such messages are spreading rapidly online.

The alert is especially relevant for Tiruppur, where a large working population could be more vulnerable to such scams. The police said people may be lured with prompts like “Apply now” or “Scratch card” to make them click fraudulent website links.

Investigators said the scam attempts to steal sensitive details including name, mobile number, bank account information and OTPs. The public has been advised not to open or forward such links, and to verify welfare scheme information only through official websites ending with .gov.in or .nic.in.

Police also cautioned people not to share bank details, Aadhaar numbers or OTPs with unknown persons or on suspicious websites, and to stay alert against online frauds promising free money or cashback offers.
