Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has said that increasing the use of domestically produced ethanol can help reduce India’s dependence on imported crude oil and build a stronger energy ecosystem.
In a statement, the public sector oil company noted that it is supplying ethanol-blended petrol through its retail outlets in line with government guidelines.
HPCL said the ethanol blending programme is aimed at lowering crude oil imports, protecting the environment and supporting farmers.
The company also pointed out that global crude oil prices can change overnight, while prices of ethanol produced within the country do not fluctuate in the same way.
By raising the domestic share in the fuel supply chain, HPCL said, the country can improve energy security and create a more resilient fuel distribution system.
