Washington: Rithi Chauhan, a 17-year-old student of Indian origin living in the United States, has earned widespread attention after taking on a major leadership role in a US Navy youth program.
Chauhan joined the US Navy’s youth wing, the Sea Cadets, driven by a strong interest in the military and defence sector from an early age. Officials, impressed by her hard work, leadership qualities and skills, have now entrusted her with a high-responsibility post.
She has been appointed as a “Regimental Commander”, a role that involves leading around 300 personnel—an assignment typically associated with experienced officers. Her responsibilities include overseeing training, monitoring discipline and leading parades.
The development has attracted international notice, with many Indians and Indian-Americans congratulating her. Speaking about the appointment, Chauhan said it was a great honour and added that consistent effort and a clear goal can help one reach any height.
