Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has told party functionaries from Karur and Nilgiris that even limited success in the upcoming by-elections could help the party regain its earlier position.
According to the report, the AIADMK failed to secure even the status of principal opposition after its defeat in the Assembly election. In the aftermath, six AIADMK MLAs resigned and joined the TVK, and several former ministers, ex-MPs and MLAs, and district and union-level office-bearers have also been moving to the same party.
Palaniswami has been holding district-wise consultations with party administrators since July 6. As part of this exercise, he met Karur and Nilgiris district functionaries at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai on Friday.
During the meeting, he is said to have expressed confidence that the AIADMK would overcome the current setback, noting that winning even two or three of the seven Assembly constituencies going to bypolls could help revive the party. He reportedly called on cadres to work hard for victory in the Karur by-election, saying it would send a message to “betrayers.”
In a separate statement, Palaniswami announced that from July 25 until April 17, 2027, consultative meetings of Jayalalithaa Peravai district, union, city, municipality and area-level office-bearers will be held every Saturday under the leadership of Peravai secretary Udhayakumar, with district secretaries and MPs/MLAs expected to participate.
