A sub-inspector in Pollachi, identified as Johnson, allegedly collected Rs 5,000 from a man named Murugesh by threatening him in connection with a case.
With the state’s anti-bribery drive said to be intensifying, the officer reportedly feared being caught and decided to return the money. Acting on the SI’s instructions, constable Nagaraj contacted the complainant and asked him to come and collect the cash.
However, the man refused to take the money back, according to an audio recording that has since gone viral online. In the clip, the constable is heard repeatedly urging him to receive the amount, while the man insists he does not want it.
Following the circulation of the audio, the district Superintendent of Police ordered that SI Johnson and constable Nagaraj be transferred to the Armed Reserve. Reports also indicate that departmental action will be initiated against both personnel.
