Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran has urged the state government to begin a special audit to address electricity tariff and billing irregularities that he said are affecting consumers across the state.
In a statement, he alleged that errors in meter reading and billing have led to incorrect charges being issued to the public, leaving poor, simple and middle-class families struggling to cope with unexpected bills.
Nagendran pointed out that the Electricity Board’s chief engineer has reportedly acknowledged major irregularities in power consumption calculations, which he said reflects an administrative failure. He called on the Chief Minister to take personal attention and resolve the issue on a war-footing.
He further demanded that the Electricity Board immediately refund any excess amounts collected and that the government initiate a special audit to ensure a permanent solution. He warned that if the problems are not promptly corrected and the public burden reduced, the BJP would mobilise people for large-scale protests.
