Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankhar died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself, triggering shock across the state.
Officials said the incident occurred during duty hours. His body was taken to a hospital in Agartala.
Following the incident, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha rushed to the DGP office. The state government has ordered a detailed inquiry to determine the circumstances and reasons behind the death.
Dhankhar was a senior IPS officer of the 1994 batch and had handled several major CBI cases. He assumed charge as Tripura DGP in May 2025.
The incident has created a stir, with authorities expected to submit a report after the investigation.
