New Delhi: Congress MPs and senior leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation.
The protest followed demonstrations in Delhi over the alleged NEET question paper leak. As protesters attempted to march towards Parliament a day earlier, police used tear gas and baton charges to disperse the crowd, and several people were reported injured and admitted to RML Hospital.
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders visited those admitted at the hospital and later marched towards Lok Kalyan Marg, where they sat in protest and raised slogans calling for the Prime Minister to step down.
Among those present were Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera, Punjab Congress chief Raja Warring, Haryana Congress leader Deepender Hooda and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. Police security was tightened around the Prime Minister’s residence, and Congress workers protesting in the area were detained.
In a social media post, Rahul Gandhi said the march sought justice over violence against students and accused the government of avoiding accountability and refusing a parliamentary debate. He demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. Union minister Jitendra Singh met Rahul Gandhi during the protest, according to reports.
