The Delhi High Court on July 21 granted permission to shift social activist Sonam Wangchuk from Delhi’s Safdarjung government hospital to a private hospital, citing his health condition.
Wangchuk had been on a continuous hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET question paper leak. After 21 days of fasting, Delhi Police admitted him to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors have been monitoring his condition.
His wife, Geetanjali, approached the High Court alleging that Wangchuk was being kept in the hospital unlawfully and sought his transfer to a private facility. The court had earlier directed the government, police and hospital administration to submit reports within three days.
When the matter came up again on July 21, the High Court allowed the transfer and also ordered the formation of a team of doctors to ensure he receives necessary ongoing treatment.
