Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said the state Assembly has passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill during the ongoing session in Bhopal.
According to the details shared, the Bill recommends equal legal rights for children born to married couples, adopted children, and children born through surrogacy.
The proposed law also seeks to ban polygamy and treats the practice of instant triple talaq as a criminal offence.
It further proposes that couples living together in a live-in relationship must register it within one month, failing which they may face up to three months in jail or a fine of Rs 10,000.
Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Assam have already passed similar UCC Bills in their Assemblies, the report noted.
