Parliament’s Monsoon Session began on July 20 at 11 am and is scheduled to run until August 13. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government has planned to take up several key bills during the session.
However, proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were repeatedly disrupted from the outset due to sustained protests by opposition parties. The opposition raised issues including an alleged theft of donations linked to the Ram temple and the NEET question paper leak.
On July 21, the Houses convened at 11 am but were soon adjourned till 12 noon after opposition members created an uproar. The protests also referred to an incident in Delhi in which police carried out a lathi-charge on party workers.
When the Houses reassembled at noon, disruptions continued and the sittings were adjourned again till 2 pm. Even after reconvening at 2 pm, the commotion persisted, leading to both Houses being adjourned for the rest of the day.
