Tamil Nadu Minister Rajmohan on Tuesday said artificial intelligence would not take away human jobs, urging people not to fear the technology. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he also made remarks highlighting the global role of Indian talent, citing Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
The minister said the state’s education system is set to change “from this moment”, with a focus on making learning a pleasant experience. He argued that reducing the weight of school bags would also reduce students’ mental burden, and said textbooks would be redesigned as colourful books.
He said the curriculum would be reshaped to suit children, including teaching mathematics through stories. As part of this shift, the government plans to introduce “prompt engineering” into the syllabus, stressing again that AI would not take away anyone’s job.
Rajmohan also spoke about encouraging hands-on science learning, saying school students should build small satellites with support from ISRO. He said the state is working towards an education plan under which satellites made by government school students could be placed in orbit, including around the Moon and around the country.
