A landslide struck an under-construction tunnel in Sikkim’s Namchi district, leaving 27 workers trapped inside, officials said. Rescue operations have been launched to bring them out safely.

According to initial information, the landslide occurred while tunnel construction work was underway. The debris is said to have completely blocked the tunnel’s entry point.

Authorities also reported a gas leak inside the newly built tunnel, complicating efforts to reach those trapped. Rescue personnel are facing difficulties in moving closer to the affected area.

The situation has triggered anxiety among the workers’ families, who are awaiting updates as the rescue continues.
