Director Vinoth has alleged that his upcoming film ‘Jananayagan’ faced “injustice” during the release process, while adding that he does not have documentary proof to substantiate the claim. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Chennai.
‘Jananayagan’, billed as actor Vijay’s final film, is set to hit theatres on July 23. The film features Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju, with music by Anirudh. It was originally slated for a January 9 release, but reached screens about six months later due to issues related to the censor certificate.
Vinoth said the team had crossed several hurdles to bring the film to theatres. He thanked Vijay for giving him the opportunity to direct the project, and said the actor’s concern for women was a key reason for taking up the film.
On the certification, the director said he was disappointed that the film received an ‘A’ certificate, and claimed the team did not have enough time to mount a challenge. He said he held no anger towards the censor committee, but argued that the censor board alone could not have delayed the film.
Vinoth also said only minor changes suggested during certification were made, and that a gesture Vijay made in the Assembly was not included in the film. He dismissed reports linking the film to the “Karur incident” as false, calling the spread of such claims unethical, and said the public had not accepted them.
