Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran on Monday alleged that Kerala-origin waste has been dumped on temple land owned by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department in Keelakadayam, Tenkasi district.
In a statement, he said around 10 tonnes of waste had been tipped on the site and criticised both Kerala for treating Tamil Nadu as a “dumping yard” and the Tamil Nadu government for failing to prevent such incidents.
Nagendran claimed that sacks found at the spot carried Malayalam markings and Kerala vehicle registration numbers. He warned that plastic, electronic waste and expired medicines could pose a threat to the Jambu river—described as a tributary of the Thamirabarani—as well as nearby farmlands and groundwater.
He alleged lapses in border monitoring and protection of temple lands, and demanded that the dumped waste be sent back to Kerala immediately. He also called for action against those responsible under the Goondas Act for illegal dumping.
