West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday threw down a challenge to party dissidents, saying they are free to join the BJP and that she would be “happy” if they do so.
Speaking at the party’s Martyrs’ Day programme in Kolkata, Banerjee said she has “no ego” and urged other parties to set aside differences and unite against the BJP. She also alleged that “goons” were being sent to disrupt the event.
Banerjee said she would not re-induct those who leave the party, adding that there are many people ready to fill any vacancies created by such exits.
Referring to developments in Delhi a day earlier, she claimed violence was unleashed against students and said she had heard the Prime Minister’s vehicle took a different route. She added that if needed, she would join protests and called for unity under the INDIA alliance to fight the BJP in West Bengal.
