Tamil Nadu Minister Rajmohan on Tuesday said the government would support students if they protest through lawful and peaceful means, but stressed that roads should not be used as venues for agitations.
He made the remarks after launching the “Neer Ezhil School” initiative at the Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School campus in Egmore, Chennai. Speaking to reporters, he said there was no difference of opinion on supporting non-violent, disciplined protests.
Rajmohan said protests held with proper permission would not be an issue, but sudden agitations triggered by provocation could inconvenience the public. He added that arrests were made when protests caused disruption to ordinary people.
On NEET, the minister reiterated that the Tamil Nadu government’s stand is that the exam should be scrapped, and that abolishing NEET is the permanent solution. He also said democratic protests are taking place in Delhi and urged the Union government to respect students’ demands, adding that education should be moved back to the State List.
