DMK party executives have expressed discontent over Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin not visiting arrested DMK MLAs in person, even as arrests of party legislators continue.
According to party sources, former minister and Tiruchendur DMK MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan was arrested on July 3 over remarks criticising Chief Minister Vijay. She was granted bail the same night.
In a separate case, Vilathikulam DMK MLA Markandeyan was arrested after allegedly making a threat against the Chief Minister and has been remanded to jail. Executives said both DMK president M.K. Stalin and Udhayanidhi issued statements on the arrests but did not take further steps such as meeting the MLAs.
The executives also pointed to other high-profile incidents, alleging that Udhayanidhi has not been visible on the ground. They cited the death of Sabarivarman in judicial custody in Nagercoil and a shocking sexual assault case involving a three-year-old child near Gummidipoondi, saying he did not visit or lead protests.
With Udhayanidhi being projected as a key face of the party after Stalin, the executives argued that failing to demonstrate leadership as Opposition Leader could weaken cadre confidence in taking on the ruling TVK government.
