A senior revenue inspector was arrested in Tiruchirappalli district’s Manapparai taluk for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 to issue an inheritance (legal heir) certificate.
According to the complaint, Eswari (30) of Pambattipatti village had applied for the certificate through a government e-service centre after the recent death of her father, Karuppasamy.
When she approached Hemalatha, the senior revenue inspector of V. Periyapatti, the official allegedly demanded Rs 4,000 to process the request. Eswari, unwilling to pay, lodged a complaint with the Tiruchirappalli district vigilance and anti-corruption police.
Following police instructions, Eswari handed over the money to the official. The vigilance team, which was lying in wait, arrested Hemalatha red-handed while she was receiving the bribe amount, officials said.
