School Education Minister Rajmohan on Tuesday highlighted ancient water-management practices while urging strict water conservation. Speaking in Chennai, he said a 2,400-year-old lined well found at Keezhadi reflects that water recycling was practiced by ancestors thousands of years ago.
He was addressing the launch event of the ‘Neer Ezhil School’ scheme, a dedicated water-management programme for government schools. The programme was inaugurated at the State Girls Higher Secondary School in Egmore.
In his remarks, the minister called on students and the public to observe everyday life closely and learn from nature, including plants, insects, water bodies and animals. He stressed that water is fundamental to all life on Earth.
Drawing an analogy to motherhood, he said water is like a mother’s milk and should not be wasted even by a drop. He reiterated that the Keezhadi discovery should serve as a reminder to value and conserve water.
