Police across Tamil Nadu registered a series of cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in separate incidents reported from Tirunelveli, Namakkal, Erode and Kallakurichi.

In Tirunelveli district’s Mukkoodal area, a 60-year-old man was arrested after being accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl who was under her grandmother’s care. Cheranmahadevi police booked the case under POCSO and took the accused into custody.

In another case, Erode women’s police arrested a 27-year-old man from Kumarapalayam, Namakkal district, on allegations of sexually harassing a 17-year-old girl. Separately in Sathyamangalam, Erode district, police registered a POCSO case against a 17-year-old youth who allegedly married a 17-year-old Plus Two student he met through social media; the girl is said to be two months pregnant.

Kallakurichi police arrested a 26-year-old man after he allegedly intercepted a 14-year-old girl on the road, grabbed her hand and sexually harassed her. In Tirunelveli’s Keelapillaiyarkulam, police also arrested a 27-year-old man in Bengaluru for allegedly morphing a 17-year-old girl’s photo and circulating it on social media.
