Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday said India is on course to become a developed nation and “a major guide for the world” by 2047, with significant achievements expected in the healthcare sector.
He was speaking after inaugurating the new campus of the GKNM College of Nursing, established by the Kuppusamy Naidu Foundation in Coimbatore. He noted that nursing colleges are seeing high student enrolment nationwide, which he said reflects growing public awareness about health.
Radhakrishnan also pointed to increased awareness around organ donation, describing it as a meaningful act that brings immense happiness to recipients. He added that the Union government is providing financial support for training eye doctors and technical experts, improving infrastructure, and procuring medical equipment.
At the event, foundation chairman Gopinath welcomed the gathering. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, foundation vice-chairman Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, and GKNM Hospital CEO Raghupathi Velusamy also addressed attendees, including doctors, professors, nurses and students.
