New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the Centre will step up action against question paper leaks, and that a key decision will be taken at the Union Cabinet meeting scheduled for July 24.
In a video message shared on social media, Modi said multiple steps have been taken over the past two-and-a-half months following the NEET question paper leak incidents. He added that those linked to the case have been arrested and sent to jail.
Modi said the government’s priority was to ensure that students do not lose an academic year. He said the Centre used its full capacity to enable around 22 lakh students to reappear for the exam within a short time, and that results were released on July 19.
He also said officials have been instructed to set up fast-track courts to expedite trials in paper leak cases, and that a proposal has been prepared. The proposal includes provisions for fast-track courts as well as stricter legal penalties for those involved.
The Prime Minister said the proposal will be discussed and finalised in the Cabinet meeting on July 24, and that the government will seek to pass the bill quickly in the upcoming Parliament session starting Monday.
