The newly formed TVK government has decided to rename the public health camp programme currently known as ‘Nalam Kaakkum Stalin’. The scheme was implemented during the previous DMK administration.
The initiative traces back to 1999, when former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi launched ‘Varum Mun Kaappom’. After M.K. Stalin became Chief Minister in 2021, the programme was revamped and later renamed as ‘Nalam Kaakkum Stalin’.
According to the report, between 2021 and 2025, a total of 5,654 free medical camps were conducted under the programme. After the renaming, 1,256 special medical camps were also organised.
The TVK government has begun collecting data on the number of beneficiaries and details of treatments and tests provided through the scheme. It is planning to continue the programme under a new name.
The report adds that, similar to how the breakfast scheme was named after former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, the government has decided to name this health programme after one of TVK’s policy leaders.
