An in-charge headmaster of a government primary school at Arasapatti in Madurai district has been placed under suspension in connection with an alleged bribery demand linked to pension benefits for a retired teacher.
The complainant, Seenithai, who retired as a secondary grade teacher from the Kallikudi Government Middle School, alleged that she paid Rs 40,000 to obtain her pension-related benefits. She stated that the money was paid to the Kallikudi Block Education Officer (BEO) Muthukumar, both directly and through the in-charge headmaster, Vasudevan.
A separate online complaint was also submitted to the Chief Minister’s Special Cell by her son Satheesh, an engineer working in London. The issue was subsequently reported in the media.
Following this, Director of Elementary Education Naresh ordered an inquiry. The probe was conducted by Thirumangalam Elementary Education Officer Ragupathi, after which Vasudevan was suspended. BEO Muthukumar was transferred to the Vadamadurai education union in Dindigul district.
