New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post amid intensifying protests over the alleged leak of the NEET question paper.
According to the report, CJBP activists have been staging a protest for 35 days at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. While the Union government held successive rounds of talks with the protesters, they continued to demand Pradhan’s resignation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured the protesters that appropriate action would be taken. A Union Cabinet meeting was also held yesterday under Modi’s leadership.
Pradhan has sent his resignation letter to the Prime Minister. In a statement, he said the developments of the past 10 days had caused him distress and that he was stepping down keeping the future of the country’s youth in mind.
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk described the resignation as a “victory for democracy,” calling it a result of peaceful, patient and persistent public mobilisation.
